History of VA STAR?

The Virginia Student Training and Refurbishment program (or VA STAR) started in 2008 as a collaborative effort of the Secretaries of Education and Technology and the Departments of Education and General Services to introduce Virginia's students to the field of IT repair. The program is administered through Prince William County Public schools and its SPARK Education Foundation.

By the end of the 2009-2010 school year, the VA STAR program had initiated programs in ten schools throughout the Commonwealth based on the model provided by Forest Park High School in Prince William County.

2012-2013 saw the STAR program win legislative support through a two year $425,000 education budget amendment. During this high growth time the program expanded to 20 school districts state wide and more than 34 schools. Currently there are 24 school districts and 39 sites arcoss the Commonwealth working the VA STAR program.
